SOCA Grad, James Kasak, Drafted in MLS
Former SOCA standout, James Kasak was selected in the January 13 MLS SuperDraft. Kasak was drafted in the fourth round by Sporting Kansas City, who will be looking to shore up their defense with Kasak’s addition. Kasak was a long-time player for SOCA from the Augusta region, participating in some epic CCL, State Cup and showcase matches during his tenure with the club.
Kasak recently completed his four year varsity career at Virginia Tech, where he started every match for the past two years. Kasak has been an important contributor to the Tech squad throughout his time in Blacksburg, playing in 75 matches, starting 44 and collecting six goals and 13 assists.
Kasak was a striker and dependable goal scorer during his SOCA days, leading his U18 SOCA team to the VYSA State Cup championship in his senior year. The Tech staff saw other talents in Kasak, converting him to a top quality defender for the Hokies.
Sporting KC will look to capitalize on James’ defensive strengths as they hope to improve on their 2019 performance. Last year Kansas City leaked the second greatest number of goals in MLS, and they’ll be eager to apply Kasak to stemming the flow.
